Sanitary Sewer System
Overview
Public Works manages Laconia’s 17 sewer pump stations and approximately 67 miles of gravity main and 5 miles of forced main. Sewage is piped into the Winnipesaukee River Basin Program (WRBP) regional wastewater system for treatment.
Sewer Emergencies:
In the event of a sewer emergency, a little trouble shooting can go a long way to quickly fix the problem. If you are not the building owner, inform the building owner/manager of the issue and work with the owner/manager to repair the problem.
- If the clog is in the building (such as a toilet) or in the service line from the building, contact a plumber. If the problem is not due to the building's system, the plumber will contact Public Works to ensure that the City's system is functioning properly.
- The City has agreements with the owners of some private sewer collection systems. Public Works will respond to emergencies on these lines and charge the system's owner for services rendered.
- Sometimes a clogged sewer main will cause a manhole to overflow. Please notify us if you see this happen.
- If the sewer emergency appears to be due to a clog in a publicly-owned main or a privately-owned main with a maintenance agreement, contact us. During normal business hours (Mon-Fri 7:30-3:30), call the Public Works at (603) 528-6379. After hours, contact the Laconia Police Department at (603) 524-5252.
